Let’s Get Gardening! Spring Festival to be held this month at Bodmin Nursery

By Chris Gill in Events

BODMIN Nursery hosts its annual Spring Festival on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April. It is a time to dig out your gardening gear and be inspired by the new life that is bursting out of every pot in sight!

As well as a nursery that is brimful of every type of plant, the team will have extra displays to encourage gardeners in specific areas, such as coastal planting, planting for habitats, the compact herb garden, natural dyeing and a collection of the more rare and unusual plants available from this extensive nursery. In addition, there will be a chance to discuss the make-up of compost in more detail, plus for the budding young gardeners out there, a whole children’s area for potting up their own seeds, face-painting and colouring, plus a fairy garden!

You can save 10% off all nursery purchases over the two days, so it offers a real incentive to kick-start your Spring gardening proper! Whether your project involves bedding, herbs, shrubs, flowering perennials, alpines, trees, fruit or vegetables, Bodmin Nursery has it covered. What’s more, there is a free tomato plant worth 99p with every purchase over £5!

Once again, the Nursery’s popular Mill Café is converting, for one weekend only, into a Tapas Bar. The Café’s terrace is a perfect place to enjoy the tapas, soak up the atmosphere and admire the surrounding aromatic Mediterranean plants. In addition, The Friends of Bodmin Hospital, who are based just up the road from the Nursery, will be providing light lunches and refreshments for their charity in a separate tea area.

With food still in mind, Bodmin’s only Farmers’ Market will take place over both days (from 10am to 2pm) which offers a chance to savour local foods and chat to the producers. Foods include breads, cheeses, pork products, fish, preserves, gluten-free, Cornish juices and much more.

You will also be able to catch roving musicians at points throughout the weekend: Cornish ceilidh band ‘Cataclews’ will be busking around all day on the Saturday, whilst Sue Hill plays guitar in the charity teas area, plus ‘Samba Kernow’ on Sunday lunchtime, followed by Cornish singing group ‘Kescana’ on Sunday afternoon. Plants and music in harmony!
