TINTAGEL Sea Angling Club held their annual presentation evening at the Wootons Hotel, Tintagel recently and it was very well attended. The Chairman Garry Boyde started the evening by recalling some memorable events during 2016. Richard Coad and Marcus May continued the presentation and started by issuing fish of the month awards to Lawrence Dawber, Derek Nute, Shaun Brewer, Peter Gordon, Ian Young, Aaron Washer and Nick Tops.
New senior shore record certificates were presented to Dave Smale for a sole, Aaron Washer for a wrasse of 2664g (106%) and Lawrence Dawber for a plaice of 1305g (121%).
New club boat record certificates were presented to Shaun Brewer for a dogfish of 1520g (111%) that was the heaviest recorded in Cornwall. Shaun also recorded a ling of 14.04kg (119%) and smoothound of 10.2kg (107%) both of which were CFSA best of species 2016. Nigel Rundle recorded a garfish of 731g and also a new record for a spotted ray.
New junior club records in the shore section were awarded to Wesley Brewer for a coalfish of 460g, Jack Nute for a dab of 306g, and Wesley Brewer for a flounder.
New junior club records in the boat section were awarded to Leon Brewer for a whiting of 1354g and a pouting of 872g. Wesley Brewer for a black bream of 995g and Jack Nute for a plaice of 762g.
Angling Trust specimen certificates were awarded to Nigel Rundle for a CFSA best of boat species scad of 1lb 4ozs and shore caught pollack of 7lb 9ozs. Shaun Brewer for a boat caught dogfish of 3lb 5ozs and Lawrence Dawber for a boat caught ling of 26lbs 1oz.
Best of year species awards shields were presented as follows: The best lure caught fish – Nick Tops. The best ray – Nigel Rundle. The best flatfish – Lawrence Dawber. The best shore bass – Mark Coleman. The best boat bass - Ian Young. The best mullet – Nigel Rundle. The best whiting – Wesley Brewer. The best bream – Shaun Brewer. The best dogfish – Shaun Brewer. The best pollack – Nigel Rundle. The best wrasse – Aaron Washer.
Nigel Rundle won the Jack Cann Shield for the best fish caught during the open. Shaun Brewer won the best boat specimen award for his record breaking specimen ling of 14.037kg (119%). Mark Coleman won the best shore specimen award for his specimen best of species bass of 4.4kg (121%).
The Luke Hardiman Memorial Shield for Junior Angler of the year was presented to Wesley Brewer who recorded three new junior club records and came 5th in the CFSA Junior under 11 shore championships.
The Boat Angler of the year was won by Shaun Brewer who had three best of species in the CFSA and finished third overall in the County Boat Championship.
The Shore Angler of the year was won by Aaron Washer for the best five fish recorded from the shore which included a new club record wrasse.
The overall Angler of the year award was won by Lawrence Dawber with an overall average of 95% and included a club record shore plaice of 121%, a boat caught ling of 101% and best of year species pouting of 94%.
The presentation concluded by thanking Ian and Felicity Young for their hospitality and support to the club throughout the year.
