THE Mayor of Bude and Stratton Council, Mrs Lea Deely, officially opened the Bude Croquet Club at the Bude Haven Recreation Ground (the Rec) on the afternoon of Sunday 2 April.
The club chairman, Brian Donahue, opened the proceedings by welcoming the mayor and guests. Mrs Deely played a few hoops with the club’s founder and joint secretary Tony Trump, Adam Wimshurst, the Croquet Federation of the SW’s Development Officer and Michael Solomons, a supporting visitor from Sussex.
The club opening was favoured with sunny weather and the occasion was attended by representatives of the bowls, tennis and squash cubs, the croquet players’ neighbours at “The Rec”, and from the closest croquet clubs namely Barnstaple, Exeter, Plymouth, Cornwall/St Austell and St Agnes as well as from the Sussex County and Worthing Croquet Clubs. Also attending were representatives from many Bude businesses and other organisations and most of the members of the club itself.
Bude Croquet Club is always pleased to hear from people interested in the game and Tony 01840 230091 and Brian 01566 774892 would be delighted to hear from any readers who would like to “give croquet a go”.
