Seniors at the Point at Polzeath

By Chris Gill in Golf

AT long last some welcome rain which has been good news for the course.

25th April we played a Stableford which was won by David Masters with 39pts, second Gerry South with 37pts and third Brian Saunders with 36pts.

The Seniors medal on the 2nd May was won by David Hussey with a nett 69, second was Kevan Bettison with a nett 70 and third David Preen with a nett 73.

Stableford on the 9th May was won by Tim Lock with 48pts and a three and half reduction in his handicap, second with 41pts was Keith Turner, third was Mike Black-Borow with 40pts.

We should have played Team game on the 16th May but due to the weather only a small handful of players turned up and it was cancelled.

Two of senior’s Jim Greenstreet and David Masters were picked by Cornwall Senior Golfing Association to represent Cornwall against Devon at Launceston in early May and they won their match. Jim also played in the away match at Stover unfortunately with another partner and they also won their match.

Whilst Cornwall lost at home against Devon 6 – 5, at Stover Cornwall won 7½ - 3½ and won overall over the two encounters 12½ - 9½ to win back the silver salver. A really good result well done Jim and David. The picture shows them in their Cornwall outfits.

Matches for this month again a bit varied, we lost away against Tehidy 6½ - 1½, at home against Boringdon we won 4 – 3, and at home against Bude we lost 4½ - 3½.

In a lot of these matches quite a few were lost on the 18th.

The Summer Victor Ludorum is underway with the standings as at May 19th with Jim Greenstreet leading with 18pts and second Stuart Taylor with 16pts, a long way to go with plenty of opportunities for all the remaining pack of players.

Enjoy the pleasant weather and happy golf.
