Samaritans celebrate Volunteers’ Week by unveiling new sign

By Chris Gill in Charity

SAMARITANS at Cornwall Samaritans at Truro joined volunteer organisations across the UK during Volunteers Week (1-7 June) to show how giving your time can make a huge difference to the lives of others.

The Cornwall Samaritans Cornwall branch is part of a network of 201 centres with more than twenty thousand volunteers across the UK and Ireland who offer emotional support to anyone who’s feeling overwhelmed, for whatever reason, by phone, email, text, letter or face to face.

To celebrate the week a new sign was installed and unveiled by Laurence Reed of BBC Radio Cornwall.

Volunteer Gill Pipkin, who is Director of Cornwall Samaritans said: “Samaritans volunteers make a difference everywhere from schools, workplaces, communities, charity shops, festivals and events. We also have volunteers who fundraise for us. Samaritans services wouldn’t exist without our volunteers. Our next Information volunteering evening is June 22nd at 7pm at our centre in Truro.”
