Boscastle Race Day makes a quacking £3,000 for the school

THE Boscastle Race Day was held in glorious weather on Sunday 2 July. The event was organised by the School Association and held on Mrs Castling’s lawn by the harbour. It was an action-packed day with various stalls and refreshments and pupils from the school ran their own games for the crowds to enjoy, including opportunities to test skills with skittles and the coconut shy.

The pupils also provided entertainment with their Boscastle School’s Got Talent with nearly half the school performing during the afternoon. The acts included singers, dancers, instrumentalists and a science demonstration. The school staff band regrouped this year for a special performance featuring Janet Lathom, the school secretary, who is retiring after 30 years’ dedicated service. Mrs Lathom was presented with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the School Association as a thanks for all her support for them over the years.

The event concluded with the Duck Race with the winning ducks being 170, 106 and 315.

Head teacher Sarah Duffy said, “It has been a wonderful day and brilliantly organised by the School Association. The children have worked hard on their performances for the talent show and we would like to thank Morwenna Gee for helping the children in their preparations. The rain in the previous week meant there was plenty of water for the duck race and it was definitely quite a sprint this year! The support from the village and visitors has been fantastic and we have raised approximately £3,000 for the school.”
